Author Biographies

George Halkos is a Professor in Economics of Natural Resources at the University of Thessaly. He is an economist who has graduated from the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus (Greece). He holds an M.Sc in Project Analysis, Finance and Investment and a D.Phil in Cost-Benefit Analysis with the use of Mathematical Models and Game Theory and with application to Environmental Economics from the Economics Department of the University of York (England). Prof. George Halkos taught various postgraduate courses across international institutions as a visiting professor. He has worked as a team leader and research fellow in various research and academic institutions for research projects financed by the European Union (PHARE programs), the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Development, the National Statistical Service of Greece, the EUROSTAT, the Ministry of Employment, etc. His research interests are in the fields of Applied Statistics and Econometrics, Simulations of Economic Modeling, Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, Applied Micro-economics with emphasis in Welfare Economics, Air Pollution, Game Theory, and Mathematical Models (Non-Linear Programming). In recognition of his scholarly impact, Professor Halkos has been included in Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% of highly cited scientists for four consecutive years, up to the last one in 2023.
Jaime Moll de Alba is the Director of the Division of Strategic Programming, Results Monitoring and Quality Assurance at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Dr. Moll de Alba is dedicated to ensuring the strategic alignment, quality, and results of all services of the Organization and to enhancing its performance and results, including by guiding the strategic and programmatic integration of UNIDO interventions. He holds a PhD, a Diploma of Advanced Studies and Research Sufficiency from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain, where he worked as a Visiting Lecturer. He graduated from the same university as an Industrial Engineer specialized in Industrial Organization. His research focuses on sustainable economic development, green industrial performance, and structural transformation. Jaime is an Editorial Board Member of Discover Sustainability. He is an Associate Editor of Frontiers Environmental Economics - Resource Economics. He is also a member of the Reviewer Board of the international journal "Economies".
Panagiotis-Stavros Aslanidis is a PhD candidate at the Laboratory of Operations Research, Department of Economics, University of Thessaly (UTU). He has received an MSc degree in Sustainable Management of Environmental Change and Circular Economy and a BSc degree in Economics (Specialization: Finance and Banking) at UTH. He has participated in several European projects in the AE4RIA Group, working as a researcher at the Athens University of Business and Economics (AUEB) and ATHENA Research & Innovation Center in Information Communication & Knowledge Technologies. Moreover, he had an internship at the National Bank of Greece in the Loans department. His research interest is in environmental economics, circular economy, energy-related phenomena (e.g., energy poverty), effective waste management, and sustainable development.
Christina Bampatsou is an associate professor at the Department of Production and Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace. She studied at the Department of Public Administration of Panteion University and holds a two-year Master's degree in Economics with specialization in Economic Policy and Development from the University of Macedonia. She holds a PhD in Environmental Economics from Democritus University of Thrace. She has published more than 40 articles in prestigious international journals and in the proceedings of international and national conferences. She is also a reviewer for articles published in international journals. Her academic research focuses on environmental and resource economics, energy economics, and the performance measurement and management of decision-making units.
