Carmen García Mateo is a Full Professor at the University of Vigo in the atlanTTic Research Center for Telecommunications Technologies. She earned her degree in Telecommunication Engineering and a PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 1987 and 1993, respectively. Since 1987, she has focused on academia and research in areas such as speech technologies, pattern recognition, eHealth, and linguistic resources. Her contributions include directing over 40 research projects and R&D contracts, with significant involvement in biometrics. She has published over 100 articles in international journals and conferences and supervised 10 doctoral theses, several with international recognition. She has held key leadership roles, including Vice-Rector for Degrees and European Convergence at the University of Vigo (2006–2010) and coordinator of its doctoral program in Information and Communication Technologies (2012–2019). In 2014, she received the prestigious Josefa Wonenburger Prize from the Xunta de Galicia for her contributions to science and technology. An advocate for women in STEM, she actively participates in outreach and training initiatives, promoting gender equality in these fields.
