Revd Dr Helen Paynter is Director of Theological Eduction at the Bristol Baptist College, and honorary Research Fellow at the University of the Free State. She completed her PhD in Old Testament studies at the University of Bristol in 2015. She is the founding director of the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence. She is the author of around thirty chapters and journal articles, and has written or edited a dozen books. She was PI of a recent British Academy funded project on Right-Wing Extremism and the Church. Her teaching disciplines include Old Testament, Biblical Hebrew, Hermeneutics, and Gender-Based Violence in the Christian context, and her interests include Biblical Violence, the Weaponisation of Scripture, and the biblical book of Numbers. She is a member of the Society for Biblical Literature, the Institute of Biblical Studies, and the Society for Old Testament Studies.
