Dr. Lawrence E. Reeves is an entomologist and Research Assistant Scientist at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory at the
University of Florida. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry at the State University of New York in 2006. He received his Master’s degree from the University of Florida in 2003 and his Ph.D. in 2017. He uses molecular techniques to investigate applied questions related to the biology and control of mosquito species in Florida and the pathogens that they transmit. The focus of his program is the development of new tools for vector and pathogen surveillance, detection, and identification through the current molecular technologies, and understanding the biology of Florida’s mosquito species for the benefit of mosquito control.
Dr. Reneé L.M.N. Ali is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She holds an MSc in Biotechnology from Nottingham Trent University, UK. She graduated with a PhD from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine which focused on understanding the virome of the local endemic Haemagogus mosquito species. She also works in the Norris laboratory, which involves the development of molecular barcoding for the confirmation of arthropod identification at the species level as well as the analysis of genetic data for integration into metagenomic pipelines with other lab collaborators. Her interests include working at the interface of the mosquito vector biology field and laboratory investigations to reduce the arboviral disease burden.
