Prof. Dr. Tomoyuki Miyamoto received the M.E. and PhD degrees from the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) in 1993 and 1996, respectively. In 1996, he joined the Precision and Intelligence Laboratory of Tokyo Tech as a research assistant. From 1998 to 2000, he was a lecturer at the Research Center for Quantum Effect Electronics of Tokyo Tech. Since 2000, he has been an associate professor at Tokyo Tech. From 2004 to 2006, he was also a Scientific Research Senior Specialist in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Office. He has conducted research on semiconductor photonic devices especially VCSELs, and III-V semiconductor quantum structures. His current research is in the field of optical wireless power transmission. He received the Outstanding Research Award from the International Communications Foundation in 2003, the Optics Award for excellent papers from the Japan Society of Applied Physics in 2004, and the Young Scientists’ Prize of the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in 2005. He is also a
member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ), the Laser Society of Japan (LSJ), the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), and the IEEE Photonics Society. He has served as the conference co-chair for the Optical Wireless and Fiber Power Transmission Conference (OWPT).
