Stephen Sammut received a B.Eng. (Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Malta, an MBA degree from the Edinburgh Business School, a Master of Science degree in Microelectronics also from the University of Malta, and a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology. He has also completed his PhD degree in Microelectronics and Nanotechnology from the University of Malta. Stephen Sammut is currently the Director of the Institute of Engineering and Transport of the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology. His research interests are finite-element modelling, MEMs, and semiconductor manufacturing.
Edward Gatt received the B. Eng. (Hons) degree in November 1993 from the University of Malta. Between 1993 and 1994, he was employed as a Systems Engineer with Megabyte Ltd. In 1995, he was appointed as an academic member of the Department of Microelectronics in the Faculty of Engineering. Currently, he occupies the post of Professor in the Department of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics within the Faculty of ICT. He is also the Head of the Department. In November 1998, he obtained an M. Phil. (Microelectronics) degree from the University of Malta in Analogue VLSI Neural Networks for Vowel Recognition. In January 2005, he obtained a PhD degree from the University of Surrey in Analogue VLSI Neural Networks for Phoneme Recognition. His research interests are analogue and digital VLSI, speech signal processing, and neural networks.
Ruben Paul Borg received a B.E.&A.(Hons.) degree in Architecture and Civil from the University of Malta, a Specialisation Degree in Structural Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano and a PhD degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Sheffield. He has been lecturing at the University of Malta since 2002 and is currently a Professor in Materials and Structural Engineering. He was appointed Chairman of the European Council of Civil Engineers for Knowledge and Technology, a Board Member of the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment, and a Malta Representative of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK). Prof. Borg is an Executive Board Member of the Building Industry Consultative Council of the Government of Malta and the Chairman of the Research and Innovation Work Group. Prof. Borg was appointed an expert on the European Committee for Standardization CEN TC350 Sustainability of Construction Works and CEN TC250 Structural Eurocodes. Prof. Borg is active in fib and RILEM scientific committees in concrete materials. He is a principal investigator on various research projects and has published widely on concrete materials and the durability performance of reinforced concrete structures. He was awarded the International Energy Globe Award in 2013.
