Prof. Dr. Tetsu Mitsumata received a PhD degree in Polymer Science in 1999 from Hokkaido University under the supervision of Prof. Y. Osada and Prof. J. P. Gong. Afterward, he studied stimuli-responsive polymer gels at Yamagata University as an assistant professor. In 2002, he joined the laboratory of Dr. P. Dekepper (CRPP Bordeaux in France) to study nonlinear chemistry in solutions and gels. At present, he works in the Department of Materials Science and Technology at Niigata University as an associate professor. He has delivered invited lectures not only to scientific conferences but also to manufacturing companies. He won the Encouragement award, the Bridgestone soft material frontier prize in 2010; the best presented paper award from the Chemical Evaluation and Research institute, Japan, in 2008; and the best presentation award from the Chemical Society of Japan in 1999. His research projects focus on viscoelastic response of magnetic soft materials and stimuli-responsive properties of synthetic and natural polymers. He is a member of the the Chemical Society of Japan; the Society of Polymer Science, Japan; the Materials Research Society of Japan; and the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan.
