He received his B.A. in Biotechnology from Henan Normal University (2000), his M.S. in Environmental Sciences from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2004), and his Ph.D. in Forest Biology and Ecology as the Outstanding International Graduate Student from Auburn University (2010). He has also received an NSF CAREER award (2022), participated in SDSU’s summer flexibility institute and obtained grants and research enterprise writing programs at that institution (2020), and received an SDSU Early Career Faculty Fellowship (2018). His major research interests are investigations of terrestrial biogeochemistry and climate feedback with a data model integration approach. His current research focus is on microbial macroecology and applications of ecological and evolutionary theories to understand microbial contributions to the carbon cycle and greenhouse gas flux in an Earth system modeling framework.
