Mieczysława Irena Boguś’s contributions to science largely involve insect physiology and relationships between entomopathogenic fungi and their insect hosts. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, and is currently a professor at the Museum and Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She obtained her master's degree in biology in 1975, her Ph.D. in 1980, and her habilitation in 1992, all at the University of Warsaw. Since 2005, she has been a full professor. From 1975 to 1994, she was employed at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw, and from 1994 to 2022, she was employed at the Institute of Parasitology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Currently, she works at the Museum and Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. She received several scholarships and completed research internships at the University of Washington, USA (10 months in 1980), and at the University of Würzburg, Germany (1984–1987, granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung; 1988–1997, granted by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft; 1993, granted by the European Commission). She has managed eleven research projects and supervised seven doctoral theses. She has published 193 works (78 in leading world journals).
