Prof. Alessandro Castagna specialized in orthopedics and traumatology at the University of Milan and in sports medicine at the University of Brescia. He gained significant experience in arthroscopic shoulder surgery at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute (United States), under the guidance of Prof. Stephen J Snyder. He trained in the field of open shoulder surgery under the guidance of Prof. Mario Randelli in Milan. He currently carries out clinical, surgical and research activities aimed at shoulder pathologies, with a particular interest in arthroscopic and open techniques applied to this field. He has demonstrated a wide range of scientific activity, documented by more than 60 publications in national and international journals and as contributions to monographic works, with a particular focus on the improvement of surgical and therapeutic methods of shoulder pathology, and in the in-depth study of biological and functional aspects in the development of surgical techniques, materials and dedicated instruments. Since 2010, he has been the President of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He is also a member of the Board of the International Congress of Shoulders and Elbow Surgery.
