Jay R. Lieberman, M.D. is a professor and the chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Southern California (USC). He specializes in total joint arthroplasty and the treatment of osteonecrosis of the hip and knee. Dr. Lieberman is the Past President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Past President of The Hip Society, and the Past President of the Western Orthopaedic Association. He has received numerous awards including the Marshall Urist Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society in recognition of his contribution to the field of tissue engineering; and the prestigious AAOS Elizabeth Winston Lanier Kappa Delta Award for his pioneering efforts related to the development of regional gene therapy for enhancing bone repair. He was recently elected as a Fellow of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for his contributions “to the field of orthopaedic surgery for the pioneering work in developing regional gene therapy and improving outcomes after total joint replacement.”
