Author Biographies

José Luis Rojas Torrijos is an Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Seville, Spain. He also participates in the MA programs in Political and Corporate Communication at the University of Seville and in Journalism and Sports Communication at Pompeu Fabra University, the European University in Madrid, and San Antonio Catholic University in Murcia. Beyond Spain, he has been a visiting lecturer in courses in Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, and Ecuador. He holds a PhD in Journalism (2010) and a BA in Information Sciences (1994) from the University of Seville and he is a member of the ‘Communication & Social Sciences’ research group in this university. His research focuses on sports journalism, quality journalism, media innovation, and digital storytelling. He has published seven textbooks on journalism and dozens of articles in highly ranked scientific journals. Before entering the academy, he worked as a journalist in several news outlets and communication departments in different organizations as well as a media consultant. He is a member of both the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) and the Sociedad Española de Periodística [Spanish Society of Journalism Studies] (SEP).
Álvaro Garrote is a young professional who currently holds the position of Educational Innovation Specialist at the Natolin Innovation Lab of the College of Europe (Natolin Campus). After graduating in Journalism from the University of Seville (2021) with nine honors, he was accepted into the Master of Arts in European Interdisciplinary Studies program at the College of Europe, graduating in 2022 with a specialization in the EU and the World. His master's thesis analyzed the role of EU institutional communication in times of crisis, focusing on case studies of Afghanistan and Ukraine. In parallel, he is studying for a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. His main responsibilities include coordinating the extracurricular academic offering on Media and Disinformation. In addition, he co-leads the reading and discussion group “Social networks, disinformation and political polarisation”.
