Mr. Naranapiti Hangawatta Appuhamilage Dilan Chathuranga is a Graduate Researcher and a Ph.D. candidate at Deakin University, Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Built Environment, School of Engineering. He has submitted his thesis after extensive research on leveraging machine learning and neural networks to optimize grid performance, with a particular emphasis on electrical phase identification in modern distribution networks. As new demands, such as electric vehicles (EVs), are placed on the grid, this work is essential for improving grid stability and efficiency. He holds a Master of Engineering Science (Electrical and Electronic) from Swinburne University of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Hons) in Electronic and Telecommunication from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. As a member of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and Engineers Australia, he has dedicated his work to optimizing electrical distribution networks through data-driven techniques. Dilan has presented his research at the IEEE PES ISGT-Asia Conference (2021) and at the Energy Summit (2024) in Melbourne. His research goal is to advance machine learning techniques for the analysis and management of electrical distribution networks, aiming to create smarter, more resilient grids that can meet modern energy demands, improving sustainability and grid stability.
