professional qualification as a cardiologist in 2021.
She passed the European General Examination in Cardiology in 2021. She started her PhD studies at the Department of Biochemistry, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences on 1 October 2023. From September to December 2021, she worked as a cardiologist at the Kaunas Hospital,
Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Hospital. From January 2022 to the present, she has been working as a cardiologist at the Kaunas Clinics, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Hospital. She has written 6 publications.
Her research interests include the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and molecular mechanisms of inflammation, and the search for new biomarkers of atherosclerosis, such as thrombospondins, markers of oxidative stress and inflammation.
Membership of professional societies: European Society of Cardiology, Kaunas Region Society of Cardiology and Lithuanian Society of Cardiology.
Aušra Mongirdienė graduated from Kaunas medical academy in 1995. She received her certificate of Physician of Laboratory medicine professional qualification in 1996. She joined the Laboratory of Clinical Biochemistry at the Institute of Cardiology in 1998. In 2010, she joined the Laboratory of Molecular Cardiology at the Institute of Cardiology. After she obtained her PhD from the Kaunas University of Medicine in 2002, she joined the department of Biochemistry in the university in 2003 as lecturer. From 2008 until 2018 she worked as an Associate Professor, and from 2018 until the present she has worked as a Professor. She has written 78 publications. Her field of scientific activity is changes in the coagulation system, oxidative stress, and inflammation readings in cardiovascular diseased patients involving atherosclerosis. In recent years, she has investigated cellular matrix proteins thrombospondins, indicators of inflammation, cytokines (GDF-15,TNF-alfa, TGF-beta), endothelial damage (endocan, vimentin), and oxidative stress readings (proteincarbonyls, oxidized lipoproteins, paraoxonase - 1 (POX-1)) in the development of atherosclerosis.
Membership in professional societies: Lithuanian Society of Laboratory Medicine, Lithuanian Society of Biochemists.
Jolanta Laukaitiene is a member of the Heart Failure Working Group of the Lithuanian Society of Cardiology, a member of the European Society of Cardiology, and a member of the European Long-Term Monitoring Scientific Program for patients with heart failure. She has an outstanding experience as a consulting cardiologist both in out-patient and in-patient settings. Prof. Dr. Jolanta Laukaitiene substantially contributed to the development of the multidisciplinary Heart Failure Service in Lithuania, its implementation, and the training of heart failure cardiologists and nurses. Her research areas of interest include heart failure, left ventricular remodelling in patients with ischemic, valvular and hypertensive heart disease, non-invasive hemodynamic assessment, and clinical biochemistry. Prof. Dr. Jolanta Laukaitiene has also significant experience in echocardiography, non-invasive assessment of hemodynamic parameters, and in the treatment of patients with heart failure and arrhythmias, as well as extensive experience in clinical trials. She has a solid list of publications and lectures at international conferences. Jolanta Laukaitiene works in the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences as a Professor and has recently improved her pedagogical competence in distance learning and medical educology.
