Dr. Lawrence W. Stanton is the director of the Neurological
Disorders Research Center of Qatar Biomedical Research Institute under Hamad
Bin Khalifa University. He obtained his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Stony Brook
University (USA) and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in cancer biology at
the University of California, San Francisco (USA). From 1990 to 2000, he was a
Group Leader at Scios Inc., USA. From 2001 to 2002, he was Director of
Functional Genomics at the Geron Corp, USA. From 2002 to 2016, he was a Deputy
Director (Research) at the Genome Institute of Singapore. From 2017 to 2019, he was Research
Director at Humacyte Inc., USA. Then, he joined Qatar Biomedical
Research Institute in 2019. He has been awarded the President’s Science and
Technology Award (Singapore) in 2011, the Outstanding Mentorship Award in 2012,
and the UK-Southeast Asia Partnership Award in 2014. From 2016 to 2017, he was
the president of the Stem Cell Society of Singapore. His ongoing research is focused on
dissecting the molecular pathways that underlie neurodevelopmental disorders,
including autism.
