Angelo Dian is a PhD Candidate at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He received an MA in Linguistics at the University of Verona, Italy, where he graduated cum laude in 2018. Angelo has accrued valuable experience in Acoustic and Articulatory Phonetics and Data Analytics through his PhD work at The University of Melbourne. His current research interests focus primarily on the phonetic realization of consonants, including the acoustic correlates of the consonantal length and voicing contrasts and their connection with lenition and fortition processes, in the context of Italian Dialectology. His previous research concerned Bilingualism and Language Learning/Applied Linguistics. Angelo Dian is a student member of the International Phonetic Association (IPA), the Association for Laboratory Phonology (ALP), and the Australasian Speech Science and Technology Association (ASSTA). His work has been recognized with a number of awards, including the Melbourne Research Scholarship, the ASSTA New Researcher Award, the IPA Travel Bursary, and the ASSTA Special ICPhS2023 Student/ECR Travel Award, as well as the Sir James Gobbo Scholarship in Italian Studies from the Faculty of Arts, University of Melbourne.
