Dr. Dharmappa Hagare is a Senior Lecturer in Sustainability Engineering at the School of Engineering, Western Sydney University. He has over 26 years of academic and 7 years of industrial experience in a wide variety of areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is a member of the Australian Water Association (1993) and Engineers Australia (1992). He has published about 200 journal and conference papers, technical reports, and book chapters. His main areas of research include water, nutrients, and materials recycling. He is currently leading research in the areas of recycled water for irrigation, reuse of water and nutrients within dairy industries, urban stormwater management, and waste recycling. He has successfully managed several projects related to the design, construction, and operation of water and wastewater treatment plants. Also, he has successfully completed several Risk Assessment and Management projects including Environmental Management Plans for mines and the use of recycled water. He has received over $3.4 million in research funding for mines and the use of recycled water.
Prof. Dr. Basant Maheshwari is a Distinguished Professor of International Engagement and Life Sciences at Western Sydney University, Australia. He received his B.Eng. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Udaipur (India), his M.Eng. in Oil & Water Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in Water Resources Management from the University of Melbourne. His work has focused on water and its interactions with the landscape while addressing aspects of modeling and analyzing the water cycle for long-term water resource planning at the regional level, understanding the implications of social, economic, cultural, policy, and institutional aspects of water cycle management and engaging community, government agencies, and other stakeholders to address significant, local water issues.
