Dr Troy J. Gibson graduated from Lincoln University, New Zealand, with a BSc in Physiology in 2001. He completed a PGDipSci with Distinction in 2004, followed by a PhD from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2009. In 2008, he joined the Royal Veterinary College (UK) as a Research Associate in Animal Welfare Physiology. He was subsequently promoted to Lecturer in Animal Welfare Science in 2012, Senior Lecturer in 2017, and Associate Professor in 2019. Dr. Gibson’s research focuses on understanding and improving the welfare of livestock during routine husbandry procedures, welfare at slaughter, and wildlife management. His work combines physiological, behavioural, and pathological assessments to develop evidence-based recommendations aimed at practically reducing animal suffering. Dr. Gibson has contributed to the development of industry guidelines on humane slaughter practices and has collaborated closely with regulatory bodies to inform animal welfare policies. He is a member of the UK Animal Welfare Committee (AWC), the RSPB Ethics Advisory Committee, and the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) Animal Welfare Committee.
