Author Biographies

Dr. Cristina Blanco-Llamero has developed her research and teaching career in different Spanish and international Institutions in Madrid (UAM–CSIC, UFV) and Portugal (UP). She achieved her PhD in a research team focusing on green extraction, microalgae, and bioactive lipids at the Autonoma University of Madrid in Spain. She has years of experience in analytical chemistry and chemical extraction of valuable compounds from microalgae, with experience with HPLC-ELSD-DAD, GC-MS, SPE, PLE, UAE, MAE, SEM, spray-drying, and enzymatic reactions.
Dr. Paz García-García is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Science, Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain. She graduated from Francisco de Vitoria University with a BS in Biotechnology in 2014 and earned her MS in Microbiology (2015) and her PhD in Food Science (2019) from the Autonomous University of Madrid. Her lines of research are microalgae biorefinery, enzymatic pretreatment of microalgae, green extraction of bioactive lipids, and production of structured lipids from DHA-rich microalgae oils.
Prof. Dr. Francisco J. Señoráns has developed his research and teaching career in Food Science and Technology in different Spanish and international Institutions during the last 30 years in Madrid (CSIC and UAM) and as a Researcher and Lecturer at Uppsala University (Sweden) for 2 years. He has a Chemical Sciences PhD (1996) and at present is a Full Professor (Catedratico de Universidad) at Universidad. Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), where he has been responsible for more than 18 years of several research competitive projects and contracts with industry on topics like enzymatic biotechnology for structured lipid production, phenolic lipids and phospholipid modification, green extraction of microalgae lipids and plant antioxidants, and health effects of natural compounds. Prof. Señorans has been in charge of the management and creation of the Joint Institute in Food Science Research (CIAL) as a Co-Director since its foundation in July 2007. His new research lines include microencapsulation for bioactive ingredient protection and delivery with new lipid nanocarriers and liposomes. In 2022, Prof. Señorans was a Responsible Researcher for 5 research contracts with industry and a project on the circular economy with microalgae (ALGATEC-CM) in collaboration with two universities and three research centers, besides being the co-Responsible Researcher (co-IP) of a project on phospholipids and DHA as neuroprotectors and on green extraction of bioactive compounds.
