Dr. Hanchen Duan is an associate professor at the National Key Laboratory of Ecological Security and Sustainable Development in Arid Region, Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He completed his Ph.D. in Physical Geography at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and has been awarded the “Zhu Liyuehua Outstanding Doctoral Award”, “Excellent reviewer of the Journal of Desert Research”, etc. He jointly obtained a master's degree and completed a visiting scholar experience at the Arid Land Research Center, Tottori University, in Japan and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), in America. He recently led the National Natural Science Foundation and the “Western Light” Young Scholars Program. He has published nearly 50 papers in various journals and serves as a member of the Chinese Geographical Society, a council member of the Gansu Remote Sensing Society, and a key member of the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research Program. His teaching disciplines include desert remote sensing, vegetation responses to climate change, and land use and land cover changes, and his interests include desertification disasters, ecological vulnerability, and ecological risk assessment.
