Özgür Kurt was a medical doctor with a PhD in Medical Parasitology and have had a Professorship in Medical Microbiology since 2015. He has been working in Acibadem University School of Medicine Department of Medical Microbiology in Istanbul, Turkiye, since 2013. His research interests are mainly intestinal parasites and their interactions with microbiota; leishmaniasis and international health; and head lice infestations in children. Moreover, he has been the Coordinator of Medical Education at Acibadem University for eight years, and he is currently the Coordinator of International Mobility. In addition, he has been a consultant physician of parasitic diseases in Acibadem Health Group Hospitals and Acibadem Labmed Clinical Laboratories. From 2015 to 2020, he was a member of the Executive Board of the Clinical Parasitology Study Group of ESCMID. Today, he was a member of the Turkish Society for Parasitology, Turkish Society for Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology Society of Turkiye (KLIMIK) and was involved in the Editorial Board of the Turkish Journal of Parasitology and Turkish Journal of Microbiology. He was also a member of the Clinical Parasitology Study Group and One Health Study Group in the Turkish Society of Microbiology. Two of his previous publications on Blastocystis were awarded with “Top cited Article 2008–2010” and “Top Downloaded Article” awards. He ongoing projects are on the treatment of leishmaniasis and the diagnosis of amoebiasis.
