Dr. Patrick Filippi is a lecturer on
precision crop management at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences,
Faculty of Science. He is a member of the University of Sydney’s Precision Agriculture Laboratory and the Sydney Institute of Agriculture. Patrick’s research in precision crop
management is centered on using diverse on-farm and off-farm spatial and
temporal datasets and data analytics to model and understand the variations in
crop condition, yield, and quality. A strong component of this research also consists of
assessing how soil, weather, and management factors impact this variability,
which can then guide improved management decisions going forward. This research
has positive outcomes for farmers, agronomists, and a wide range of other
stakeholders in terms of efficiency, profitability, and environmental
sustainability.
Thomas Bishop is the academic director of
the Sydney Informatics Hub, which is a core research facility at the University
of Sydney. He is a professor in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences,
where his research interests lie in modeling and predicting the variation of
environmental properties in space and time, with an emphasis on applying this to
the domains of soil, agriculture, and hydrology. His main teaching topics are related
to applied statistics, environmental science, and GIS. He is an associate
editor for the European Journal of Soil Science and Soil Research and is on the
editorial board of Geoderma and Pedosphere. Before starting work at the
University of Sydney in 2007, he held postdoctoral positions at the University
of Florida in the USA, Rothamsted Research in the United Kingdom, and the
University of New South Wales. He completed his PhD in precision agriculture at the University of Sydney in 2002.
