Jo’ Del Gobbo was born in San Severino Marche (MC), Italy. He earned both his BS and MS in chemistry from the University of Camerino, where he was awarded a scholarship to participate in the Double Degree project at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. He first gained exposure to research during his Master’s thesis, where he collaborated with Prof. Maura Pellei and Prof. Carlo Santini on the project titled “Design, Synthesis, and Reactivity of Novel Transition Metal Complexes of 1,3-Diketonates Bearing Perfluorinated or Heterocyclic Moieties.” In 2022, Jo’ joined the same group for his PhD, focusing on coinage metal complexes supported by various phosphane and different anionic and neutral functionalized ligands. These new complexes have potential applications as metal-based anticancer drugs, catalysts, and novel materials. Later, he worked as a Visiting Researcher at The University of Texas at Arlington under Prof. Rasika Dias. His work involved a range of modern synthetic and analytical techniques, including Schlenk and glove box methods, as well as single X-ray crystallography, to develop new fluorinated scorpionate ligands and their related metal complexes. Jo' is currently pursuing his PhD in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biotechnology, Curriculum: Chemical Sciences at the International School of Advanced Studies in Camerino. In his free time, Jo’ enjoys walking in nature, playing sports, and traveling to learn about different cultures.
