Prof. Dr. Magdalena Chmiela completed microbiology studies at the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences (currently the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection) in 1981. She obtained a doctorate in natural sciences in immunology in 1991 and obtained a habit. She obtained a degree in the natural sciences, immunology, and clinical microbiology in 1999 and received the academic title of professor in 2005. In 1981, she started working at the Department of Immunology, Institute of Microbiology, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz. Since 2003, she has been the head of the department, later the Laboratory of Gastro immunology, and since 2010, she has been the head of the Department of Immunology and Infectious Biology. From 2008-2016, she was the Director of the Institute of Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Immunology, University of Lodz. In the years 2012-2019, she was a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Medical Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and in the term 2015-2019, she was a member of the Committee on Molecular Cell Biology and the Committee on Food Science and Nutrition of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She is a member of the Polish Society of Microbiologists. She is a member of the Editorial Board of The World Journal of Gastroenterology.
