Author Biographies

Mark Deuze is a Professor of Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with a PhD in Social Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. His awards include a Fulbright scholarship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (US), a Research Fellowship at Leeds University (UK), and several honorary appointments at universities in the UK, Australia, Portugal, Germany, and Russia. Publications of his work include 14 books, most recently "Life in Media" (MIT Press, 2023) and “Happiness in Journalism” (co-edited, Sage, 2024), as well as 150+ journal articles and book chapters. His research and teaching focus on media and society, media work, and journalism studies. He is also a band member of Skinflower, with a new album (titled “Kaduc”) out in 2024.
Dr Laura Glitsos is Senior Lecturer at the School of Arts and Humanities, Edith Cowan University, Perth (Australia). She completed her PhD studies in Cultural Studies at Curtin University and was awarded the 2021 Rebecca Coyle Prize from IASPM-NZ. She has published more than a dozen research articles in various journals across the disciplines of Journalism Studies, Popular Music Studies, and Media and Cultural Studies. She is on the editorial boards of Popular Music and Society and Rock Music Studies. Her first sole-authored monograph is Somatechnics and Popular Music in Digital Contexts (2019).
