Author Biographies

Rafael C. Castro is a PhD student at REQUIMTE (LAVQ) Associate Laboratory, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto. He obtained his MSc degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto in 2019. He is carrying out research on the synthesis of semiconductor QDs and metallic nanoparticles and its application in chemical analysis.
Dr. Ricardo N. M. J. Páscoa completed his degree in Microbiology at ESB/UCP in 2005, a Master's degree in Environmental Analytical Chemistry at FFUP in 2006 and a PhD in 2011 in Biotechnology/Chemistry at ESB/UCP. After the PhD, he went through a Post-PhD in Analytical Chemistry and Chemometrics in FFUP. Since 2018, he has been working as a researcher in LAQV/REQUIMTE at FFUP. His research focuses on the use of vibrational spectroscopy techniques, namely NIR, MIR and Raman, coupled to chemometrics (multivariate data analysis) for the development of environmentally friendly, inexpensive and rapid analytical techniques that can be applied in agro-food products/industry.

Dr. David S. M. Ribeiro is a Researcher at REQUIMTE (LAVQ) Associate Laboratory, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, where he obtained his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a specialization in Analytical Chemistry (2012) and an MSc in Analytical Chemistry/Quality Control (2007). His research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), including binary (CdTe) and ternary (AgInS₂) arrangements, as well as carbon dots (CDs). Dr. Ribeiro’s work advances the development of chemiluminescence- and photoluminescence-based methodologies for monitoring analytes with environmental, pharmaceutical, and food relevance.
