Dr. Elaine Mooney is a lecturer in the School of Home Economics. She is a home economics and biology graduate of St. Angela’s College Sligo with an MSc in Food Science from UCD and a PhD from the University of Ulster. In May 2018, Elaine, along with Amanda McCloat, presented to the Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs on Tackling Childhood Obesity on behalf of the School of Home Economics of St. Angela's College, Sligo. Elaine is the Director of the National Centre of Excellence for Home Economics at St. Angela's College.
Dr. Amanda McCloat is the Head of ATU St. Angela’s. Prior to this, she was the Head of Home Economics and Senior Lecturer. Amanda McCloat holds an undergraduate Bachelor of Education (Home Economics and Religious Education) from St. Angela’s College NUI; a Master of Arts (Education) from the University of Limerick; a master's in Science (Food Policy); and a PhD from the University of London (City). She has a professional diploma in leadership and management (UCD) and a certificate in executive leadership from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, London. Dr. McCloat has extensive experience in academic leadership internationally and was recently (September 2022) appointed as the President-Elect of the International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE); she will take up the role as President of IFHE, an organisation. She is a board member of the European Association of Home Economics, a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Home Economics (IFHE), and the co-chair of the World Congress (2024). At a national level, Dr. McCloat sat on the inaugural Healthy Ireland Council, a position she was appointed to by the then Minister for Health in May 2014. She was also a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of Safefood and has been a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Association of Teachers of Home Economics (ATHE) since 2009. Her research interests are in the areas of home economics and food education, food literacy, etc.
