Gregory M. Anstead is an infectious diseases specialist with clinical appointments at the South Texas Veterans Healthcare System (STVHS) and University Health System (San Antonio) for 24 years. He is also a professor of medicine at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. Teaching trainees of many disciplines has been the major focus of his academic career. He has presented over 250 lectures at venues outside of UTH-SA to diverse audiences. He has also provided multiple lectures for board-review courses and continuing medical and nursing education. He has published > 80 peer-reviewed scientific and medical papers and has also contributed > 50 chapters to major textbooks of internal medicine, tropical medicine, immunology, and medical mycology. He has also conducted basic science research in medicinal chemistry, the immunology of malnutrition, and parasitology (leishmaniasis). He has also been the local principal investigator of multiple clinic trials for the development of antifungal and antiretroviral therapies. His main interests are parasitic and vector-borne diseases, the historic epidemiology of infectious diseases, HIV clinical care, and endemic mycoses.
