Dr. Fernando G. Fermoso has held a permanent scientist position in the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) since 2012. He actually leads the “Bioprocesses for Circular Economy” research line at Instituto de la Grasa (CSIC). His research experience includes a year and a half as a postgraduate researcher in Spain (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela), 4 years as a PhD student in the Netherlands (Wageningen Universiteit) funded by a Marie Curie project (Marie Curie Excellence Team: Novel Biological Engineering Processes for Heavy Removal and Recovery), and more than 2 years as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Netherlands (Wageningen Universiteit and Deltares) and Spain (Instituto de la Grasa, CSIC). He has been Chair of the COST Action 1302, which comprises a network of >100 researchers through 26 EU countries as well as 4 non-EU countries. He has been a principal investigator of a collaboration project with the University of Sao Paulo, financed by the Brazilian government, on the effect of heavy metals in anaerobic sewage treatment.
