Prof. Dr. Petya Chaveeva is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, fetal medicine, and fetal surgery. She graduated from the Medical University—Sofia. Between 2006 and 2007, she participated in an ob/gyn workshop held by Prof. Atanas Shterev. Then, she becomes part of Dr. Shterev's hospital team. In 2010, she started her three-year specialization under the supervision of Prof. Kypros Nicolaides in fetal medicine and fetal endoscopic surgery at King's College Hospital, London. Her diploma from 2012 is for fetal medicine and the field's first trimester screening test for chromosomal abnormalities, fetal morphology in the second gestational trimester, the monitoring of high-risk pregnancies (singleton and multiple), Doppler screening, and cervical evaluation. Dr. Chaveeva has a certificate for fetal echocardiography from Prof. Lindsey Allan. She is a skilled specialist in invasive diagnostic procedures (chorion biopsy and amniocentesis). The last year in her London education was dedicated to highly-specialized endoscopic fetal surgery. In 2014, Dr. Chaveeva implemented for the first time in Shterev Hospital three innovative fetal surgeries: laser surgery for transfusion syndrome, intrauterine fetal blood transfusion, and minimally invasive surgery to correct congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Dr. Chaveeva is an international lecturer, with regular participation in scientific forums on the topics of fetal medicine, prenatal diagnostics, and minimally invasive fetal surgery.
