Prof. Dr. Gudmundur G. Haraldsson is a professor emeritus at the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Science Institute, University of Iceland. He completed his BS studies in chemistry at the University of Iceland (1976) and D. Phil. studies in synthetic organic chemistry at Oxford University (1982). After one year of postdoctoral research at Ohio State University, he worked as a researcher at the University of Iceland (1983–1985). He became an associate professor in 1985 and was promoted to full professorship in 1996. He served as a chairman of the Division of Chemistry from 1996–1998,  a vice-rector from 1999–2002 and dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences from 2008–2012. In 2004, he moved to Helsinki University of Technology and Turku University in Finland in 2022 as a visiting professor. His research interests include synthetic organic chemistry and bio-organic synthesis, with an emphasis on marine lipids and fats.
