Author Biographies

Dr. Kathryn Underwood is a Professor at the School of Early Childhood Studies and Dimensions Faculty Chair for the Faculty of Community Services, Toronto Metropolitan University. She completed her Ph.D. studies in Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning (Special Education and Adaptive Instruction) at the University of Toronto. Recently, she was the Principal Director for the Inclusive Early Childhood Service System Project. The project, working with the Youth Advisory Committee, District of Timiskaming Elders Council, and International Advisory Committee, aims to better understand disability in early childhood from diverse cultural, geographic, and community perspectives. Her areas of interest include inclusive curriculum, teaching and learning, disability studies in education and childhood, special education policy and practice, and early years service planning and delivery.

Tricia van Rhijn is a Registered Early Childhood Educator and Professor in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph. Her research interests include early childhood education and care, family relations, work–life integration, and the experiences of non-traditional students in formal post-secondary education, in particular, mature students and student parents.
