Divya Maitreyi Chari is Professor of Neural Tissue Engineering at the Keele University School of Medicine. She gained a DPhil in Developmental Neurobiology from Oxford University, followed by postdoctoral work at the Cambridge Centre for Brain Repair & Veterinary Medicine, latterly funded by a UK Multiple Sclerosis Society Junior Fellowship. She established the new Neural Tissue Engineering Keele Group and her laboratory develops novel tissue engineering approaches for neural regeneration including implantable biomaterials, nanoparticle platforms and electrostimulation methods. Development of in vitro models to reduce reliance on live animal experimentation is a major goal for the group. Her work has been funded by several national and international funding agencies including the UK Research Councils and various medical charities. She serves on grants advisory panels for the UK Multiple Sclerosis Society, Spinal Research, and the Medical Research Council Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme panel.
