Prof. Gang Zheng received his Bachelor, Master, and PhD from Tianjin University in 1987, 1992, and 2000, respectively. From October 2004.10 to September 2005, he was a visiting scholar in the Geotechnical Engineering Research Group of the Engineering Department of Cambridge University, UK. He is currently the Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Tianjin University and a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education. He is also the vice president of the Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering, the vice president of the Foundation Branch of the Architectural Society of China, the vice president of the Deep Foundation Construction Branch of the China Construction Industry Association, and an editorial board member of the Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, the Chinese Civil Engineering Journal, the Journal of Building Structures, and the international journal Cogent Engineering-Civil and Environmental Engineering. His main research directions include superstructure–pile–soil interactions, underground structure–soil interactions, urban underground engineering design and construction technology and safety, deep foundation pit engineering, and soft soil foundation treatment.
Prof. Xuesong Cheng is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Tianjin University, China. He also serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Engineering and Director of the Laboratory of Underground Engineering at Tianjin University. His main research directions include superstructure–pile–soil interactions, underground structure–soil interactions, urban underground engineering design and construction technology and safety, deep foundation pit engineering, and soft soil foundation treatment.
