Prof. Andrew M. Janczak is a Professor of Animal Behaviour and Welfare at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). After obtaining a degree in farm animal ethology, a doctoral degree, and several postdoctoral projects at NMBU, he spent a year at USDA-ARS Livestock Behaviour Research in West Lafayette, IN, USA. He then returned to NMBU in 2008. Throughout his career, he has been interested in behavioural plasticity in laying hens. He has been responsible for projects studying both maternal effects and effects of early environmental complexity, focusing on quantifying mostly effects on fearfulness, competitiveness, cognition, and stress responses.
