Ming Bai is a researcher at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. He received his diploma there for his taxonomic revision and phylogenetic analysis of scarabs from China. His dissertation focused on the origin and evolution of Scarabaeoidea using data from both extant and fossil groups. A phylogenetic analysis of Scarabaeoidea and Scarabaeinae was undertaken separately based on morphological and molecular data. The comparative morphology and historical biogeography of Scarabaeinae were studied in detail for the first time. The species of Chinese Scarabaeinae were revised here. A large number of types and determined species of Cetoniinae and Dynastinae were also examined. Currently, Bai is in charge of the Scarabaeoidea collection at the National Zoological Museum of China, which is part of the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The museum houses over 5 million zoological specimens, which is the largest collection in Asia. Bai has traveled over most of China collecting insects. He is looking forward to collaborating with other specialists studying scarabs.
