Prof. Dr. Božidar Šarler is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics at the Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering, University of Ljubljana (UL). He graduated in Industrial Physics
at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at UL in 1981 then obtained an M.Sc.
degree in Nuclear Engineering and a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from the University
of Maribor in 1990. After graduating, he joined the Jožef Stefan Institute. From
1991 to 2000, he was employed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UL, and
from 2001 to 2016, he was a professor at the University of Nova Gorica. He
serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia,
Taiyuan University of Technology, China, and the University of Naples
“Parthenope”, Italy. He is a recipient of the Puch Prize (2006) for outstanding
applied achievements in modeling and simulation of materials and processes and
the Zois Prize (2016) for outstanding scientific achievements in the
development and application of mesh-free numerical methods. He holds several
senior and other important positions, including a membership in the EU ESFRI
Energy Working Group and Eurotherm Committee. His research interest is
computational modeling of materials and processes, development of numerical
methods and physical models for multiphase systems, and the modeling, simulation,
verification, and optimization of systems ranging from microfluidics to world
largest casts.
