Marilena
Papageorgiou (PhD) is an assistant professor of spatial planning in the School
of Spatial Planning and Development (Eng.) at the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki (Greece) and Tutor at the Hellenic Open University (MA and MSc
Tourism Administration). She holds a Degree in Spatial Planning and Regional
Development (School of Engineering, Volos, Greece) and a DESS (MSc) in Tourism,
Culture and Local Development (Univ. of Avignon, France). She also holds a PhD
Degree in Spatial Planning and Development from the University of Thessaly
(Greece).
She has worked as a Spatial Planner (Eng.), participating as a
consultant in spatial planning projects (urban and regional plans) (2010–2023).
She has also worked as a Scientific Advisor for Members of the Hellenic
Parliament (2002-2009).
She has published in Greek and international scientific journals,
collective volumes, congress proceedings, etc. She received an award for her
published work “Networking underground archaeological and cultural sites: the
case of the Athens Metro”, by ISoCaRP (International Society of City and
Regional Planners).
Research interests: spatial planning (maritime and terrestrial),
environmental planning, tourism planning, planning for the protection of
natural and cultural heritage.
She is currently a member of the National Council of Spatial Planning of
Greece (2022–today).
Georgia Pozoukidou is an Associate Professor of Urban Planning at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in land-use models and spatial planning. She holds a degree in Spatial Planning and Regional Development (University of Thessaly), with an MSc and PhD in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. She has worked in both the private and public sectors in the USA and Greece, gaining expertise in land use planning, urban modeling, and participatory planning. Her research focuses on spatial models and 15-minute cities as alternatives to mobility-centric urban development. She has published over 70 scientific papers.
