Dr. Omar Almahdy is Chairman of the Architecture and City Design Department at the College of Design and Built Environment, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). He completed his PhD studies in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, IL, focusing on enhancing city livability by improving walkability and examining the role of socio-cultural factors in shaping environmental behavior.Recently, he has led the Green Campus Initiative and played a key role in overseeing the development of the Smart and Sustainable Cities (SSC) Program. He also serves as a technical reviewer for prestigious design competitions and research initiatives, including the King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award.His teaching and research interests include urban design, placemaking, sustainability, walkability, and cognitive cities.
