Dr. Shyam S. Mohapatra is a Distinguished USF Health Professor and Director of the Division of Translational Medicine at the University of South Florida Department of Internal Medicine. He also directs
the USF Center for Research and Education in Nanobioengineering. He serves as a research career scientist at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa and has led the VA Colorectal Cancer Cellgenomics Consortium since 2017. Since 2014, he has served as Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at the USF College of Pharmacy and established a highly innovative Master of Science program in pharmaceutical nanotechnology. He received his BS in biology from Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology in 1976, his M.S. in genetics/statistics from GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology in 1978, and his Ph.D. in botany from The Australian National University in 1984. He was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Research Achievement Award from the University of South Florida in 2005 and the Global Corporate Awards in Nanotechnology from the Global Corporate Awards in 2014. He is a charter fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, a fellow of the American Association of Medical and Biological Engineers, and a fellow of the American Association of Advancement of Science. His research focuses on immunology and inflammation in immunologic and infectious viral diseases and cancers.
