Prof. Dr Sandro Serpa is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Coordinator of the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of the Azores, Portugal. He has been a higher education faculty member since 2000. He received his Master’s in Sociology from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Nova University of Lisbon in 2004 and his PhD in Education, with a specialty in the Sociology of Education, in 2013, from the University of the Azores. He has been a Director of the Social Work program at the University of the Azores. He is an integrated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences of the Azores (CICS.NOVA.UAçores). He is an elected member of the Executive Council of Associação Portuguesa de Profissionais em Sociologia Industrial, das Organizações e do Trabalho (APSIOT) (Portuguese Association of Professionals in Industrial, Organizations and Work Sociology). He carries out research in the fields of sociology, education, digital society, and sustainability. He is a member of the Editorial Board of several journals and has served the Cogent Social Sciences journal as a Senior Editor in the Sociology section (2020–2022). He has more than 380 publications in Brazil, Canada, China, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
