Dr. Carolina Carvalho Gontijo works in the Laboratory of Human Genetics, University of Brasilia. Dr. Carolina Carvalho Gontijo works as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Tropical Medicine/UnB and as a Collaborating Researcher linked to the Postgraduate Program in Animal Biology IB/UnB. Dr. Gontijo has a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasília (2005), a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasília (2007), a master's degree in Animal Biology from the University of Brasília (2008) and a doctorate from the same program (2019), both with an emphasis on Biological Anthropology and Ancestry. Dr. Gontijo was a professor of Biological Anthropology, with a focus on Evolution and Human Genetics, at Faculdade Alvorada for the undergraduate course in Biology. Dr. Gontijo worked as a guest researcher at the Luis Concheiro Institute of Forensic Sciences at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Dr. Gontijo has field experience in the collection, processing and analysis of primary data in demography, general health and genealogy, and in the area of Genetics, with an emphasis on Population Genetics, Biological Anthropology, Ancestry and Forensic Genetics.
Dr. Gustavo Adolfo Sierra Romero obtaineda Master's in 1995 and a PhD in 2000 in Tropical Medicine from the University of Brasília. Dr. Romero is a Specialist in Infectology at the Brazilian Society of Infectology (2007) and a Specialist in Hospital Management in Fiocruz, Brasília (2010). He works as an Associate Professor at the School of Medicine and as a researcher at the Center for Tropical Medicine at the University of Brasília, where he dedicates himself to clinical research, mainly in leishmaniasis, arboviruses and other infectious and parasitic diseases. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Infectious Diseases Data Observatory (IDDO) on visceral leishmaniasis coordinated by the Center for Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the University of Oxford. He works as a consultant for the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization as an expert in leishmaniasis. He was Secretary General (2003-2004) and Vice President (2017-1019) of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine. He was Director of the University Hospital of Brasília from August 2008 to April 2011. He coordinated the Postgraduate Program in Tropical Medicine from 2011 to 2016. He was a visiting researcher at the Amazonas Tropical Medicine Foundation from 2012 to 2015 and currently holds the position of Director of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Brasília since 2017.
