Dr. Sophan Chhin is an Associate Professor in the Forest Resources Management program, Division of Forestry and Natural Resources, West Virginia University. He completed his Ph.D. in Forest Biology and Management at the University of Alberta in 2008 and has conducted extensive research across forest biomes in North America, Africa, and Asia. His research interests include quantitative methods in forest ecology and silviculture, the role of silviculture in climate change adaptation and forest disturbance resilience, the effects of silvicultural practices on wood quality and woody biomass development for bioenergy, the impact of global change and disturbances on forest productivity and regeneration, restoration and management of endangered forest ecosystems, fire ecology and management (including fuels and fire behavior modeling), and tree ring applications (dendrochronology) in analyzing forest stand dynamics and growth–climate relationships.
