Prof. Guilherme Peixoto had his Master’s degree in Hydraulic and Sanitation Engineering (USP - São Carlos School of Engineering) and his PhD in Engineering (USP - São Carlos School of Engineering). He works mainly in the area of Biological Production of Hydrogen and Methane in Continuous Reactors. In the research theme of Enzymatic Reactors, he worked with the Production of Compounds for the Pharmaceutical Industry in Systems with Enzymes Immobilized in Composites/Lignocellulosic Materials. He developed postdoctoral work at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos (USP - IFSC) on the Production of Ethanol, VFAs, and Biogas from the Fermentation of Pentoses. In 2008, he won, as part of a team, the Mercosur Science and Technology Award (UNESCO, CNPq, Petrobras) with the study Biological Production of Hydrogen from Wastewater. In 2018, he received the team award for Best Hardware (3D printed reactor for GMO cultivation) from the IGEM World Competition and designed and hosted at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). He currently works on the evaluation and implementation of biorefineries, removal of toxic compounds from biological processes by electrocoagulation, and development of a biophotovoltaic system for the generation of electricity, removal of carbon dioxide, and production of oxygen.
