Author Biographies

Dr. Davide Benedetto Tiz is a Research Assistant at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He completed his Diploma studies in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Trieste (2014), as well as his MSc and PhD studies at the University. After finishing his PhD he worked at Fidelta, Zagreb (Croatia) as a medicinal chemist. He later conducted a Postdoctoral research at the University of Pardubice (Czech republic) under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aleš Imramovský. This basic research was focused to prepare new compounds (salicylamide – peptide aldehydes, various epoxides or boronic acids), which should join a large group of proteasome inhibitors. In 2022, he worked as a PostDoc fellow at University of Perugia, Italy. In 2023, he has worked at National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana (Slovenia). Since January 2024 he has been a postdoc Researcher at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Chemistry working on immobilized catalysts for deuteration ("ImCatD").
Dr. Giorgio Tofani is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Chemistry in Slovenia. He completed his BSc studies in Science and Technology for Industry and the Environment at the University of Pisa (2010) and MSc studies in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Pisa (2012). He obtained a PhD in Applied Engineering at the University of Antwerp (2021), with research applying biorefinery concepts to paper recycling. In 2021, he became a Research Fellow at the University of Pisa, working on synthesizing ionic liquids for electrochemical applications. Afterwards, he moved to the National Institute of Chemistry in August 2022. His research includes developing sustainable materials using biomasses and biowastes.
Dr. Filipa A. Vicente is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Chemistry in the Department of Catalysis and Chemical Reaction Engineering. She completed her BSc studies in Biochemistry, MSc studies in Clinical Biochemistry, and PhD studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal in 2012, 2014, and 2019, respectively. Currently, she leads the group "Process and Product Engineering for Pharmaceutical and Food Industry" within her department. She has published 32 articles in peer-reviewed journals, with 3 featured on the Green Chem’s cover and 1 in the ACS Sustain. Chem. Eng.’s cover, as well as 2 book chapters, which have collectively garnered over 800 citations. She has served as Principal Investigator on two large Horizon Europe projects and secured funding for smaller bilateral collaborations with the USA, France, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, contributing to her participation in a total of 16 national/international projects. Her areas of interest include biorefinery, circular economy, purification processes, alternative solvents, and food and pharmaceutical ingredients.
Dr. Blaž Likozar is a Researcher and Head of the Department of Catalysis and Chemical Reaction Engineering at the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia. He completed his PhD studies in Chemical Engineering. From 2014 to 2015, he worked at the University of Delaware as a Fulbright Program researcher. He has published more than 340 scientific papers, has been cited over 9,000 times, and has worked for the Chemical Reaction Engineering program on numerous research projects (15 H2020 / 50, solely in Horizon Europe). His areas of interest include sustainable development, polymers, reaction kinetics, adsorption, kinetics, heterogeneous catalysis, catalyst characterization, chemical reaction engineering, process engineering, and material characterization.
