Dr. Walter José Gomes is a professor at the Departamento de Cirurgia, Federal University of Sao Paulo. He graduated from the Federal University of Sao Paulo in 1985 with a degree in thorax surgery. He went on to receive his M.Sc. in 1989, Ph.D. in 1994, and Livre-Docente in 1999, all from the same university. He furthered his career with a senior lecturer consultant position at the Bristol Heart Institute in the United Kingdom from 1997 to 1998. Back in Brazil, he served as an associate professor of cardiovascular surgery at the Federal University of Sao Paulo and as the head of cardiovascular surgery at Pirajussara Hospital. His commitment to the field extends beyond clinical practice, as he also serves as an associate editor for both the Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery and the Sao Paulo Medical Journal. Notably, he was President of the Brazilian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery from 2011 to 2012. He has experience in Medicine, focusing on heart surgery, acting on the following subjects: circulacao extracorporea, revascularização miocárdica, cirurgia cardiaca, arteria toracica interna, and síndrome vasoplégica.
