Paulo Torrão Fiadeiro is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics (DF) of the Faculty of Sciences (FC) of the Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI) and a Senior Researcher in Applied Optics and Optical Instrumentation. He is a PhD member and the Coordinator of the Fiber Materials and Environmental Technologies Research Unit (FibEnTech-UBI). He has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering—branch of digital systems and computers—from the IST (Universidade de Lisboa), Portugal (1986) and a PhD in physics—optics—from Loughborough University of Technology (LUT), United Kingdom (1995), and aggregation in physics from UBI (2005). His scientific domains and main interests are applied optics and vision sciences, namely digital holography, laser interference and diffraction, color, hyperspectral imaging, and visual acuity by preferential look. He is a graduate member of the Optica (formerly OSA—Optical Society of America), the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO), the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), the European Optical Society (EOS), and the Portuguese Society for Optical and Photonic Research (SPOF).
Elsa Fonseca received a 5-year B.S. degree in Physics Engineering and Technology in 1995 and an M. Sc. degree in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering in 1998, both from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal. In 2007, she received her Ph.D. in Physics, from Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI), Covilhã, Portugal. She is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Physics, UBI. She is also a PhD member integrated in the Fiber Materials and Environmental Technologies (FibEnTech) Research Unit of UBI. Her main research interests are biomedical optics, digital holography, simulation and development of optical systems and signal processing applications in the areas of image and video coding, remote sensing, non-destructive evaluation and vision sciences. She has authored or co-authored several international refereed journals and conferences and participated in the Editorial Review Board of several International Journals. She is also a member of the Optica (formerly OSA).
