Author Biographies

Andrew Prevett, BSW (Hons), is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience spanning the Australian Army and state law enforcement. Currently a PhD candidate at Flinders University through the Open Door Initiative, Andrew’s research focuses on the factors influencing veteran well-being and health outcomes across the Australian veterans' non-profit sector. In addition to authoring peer-reviewed papers, he is a sought-after expert in military cultural competency training, having been commissioned to deliver programs across the university sector.
Monica is a senior lecturer at CSU in the school of Social Work and Arts. Co-designed participatory research with people with the lived experience is fundamental to Dr Monica Short's work. Honouring emic (insider) and etic (outsider) knowledge, collaboration, valuing relationships, sharing power, promoting social justice, and upholding egalitarian principles are central principles for her research. Monica applies an integrated lens with an epistemological base in social work, sociology, and theology in her work. She utilises methodologies such as co-operative inquiry, ethnography, literature review, and case studies. Her research contributes to the CSU research narrative of the development of individuals and thriving communities with strong social frameworks where harmony resides.

Ben Wadham is the Director of the Open Door initiative at Flinders University, focused on improving the well-being of veterans, public safety personnel and their families. A veteran himself, Ben’s research spans the health and well-being of military personnel, institutional abuse in the ADF, veteran suicide, and transitions into higher education. He also works on men’s violence prevention and collaborates with international research hubs across the Five Eyes nations.
