Author Biographies

Dr. Divya Varier is an Associate Professor at the George Mason University. She teaches graduate-level courses in education research, assessment, and program evaluation at George Mason University. She received her Ph.D. in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. Her research is focused on educational assessment, specifically examining ways to use assessments to support learning and instruction. She has presented her work at national and international educational research conferences, such as the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the American Evaluation Association (AEA), and the International Association of Educational Assessment (IAEA).
Dr. Marvin George Powell completed his PhD studies in Educational Research at the University of North Texas in 2016. He is an Associate Professor in the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University. He teaches Ph.D.-level quantitative methods courses, focusing on measurement development and validation, and statistical applications. He conducts research in the assessment of the psychometric properties of educational and psychological instruments using a range of latent trait analyses: structural equation modeling and item response theory. He used critical theories (e.g., QuantCrit, CRQI) to address quantitative research questions. He is also interested in researching the use of humor as an andragogic tool in reducing statistical anxiety and increasing statistical self-efficacy in social science students.
Dr. Stephanie Dodman is an Associate Professor in the School of Education, College of Education and Human Development. She joined the faculty in 2011 after earning her Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, and Teacher Education at the University of Florida. Her research interests include teacher learning and leadership, critical reflection and inquiry, job-embedded teacher professional development, and school-university partnerships. She was recognized for her commitment to and excellence in online teaching with the 2019 George Mason University Online Teaching Excellence Award.
Dr. Jenice L. View is an Associate Professor Emerita in the Graduate School of Education. She has a B.A. in economics and international relations from Syracuse University, an MPA-URP in development studies and urban and regional planning from Princeton University, and a Ph.D. in education from the Union Institute and University. Her research interests include critical teacher professional development, history education, civil rights and labor education, the uses of arts integration, and teaching for social justice. She is the winner of the 2004 Philip Chinn Award from the National Association of Multicultural Education and Honorable Mention from the Gustavus Meyers Center for the Study of Bigotry and Human Rights and designated an "enduring classic" in 2011 by the Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching Tolerance.
Dr. Elizabeth DeMulder is Professor Emerita of Education at George Mason University. She was the Academic Program Coordinator of Transformative Teaching (TT), a professional development master's degree program for practicing educators housed in George Mason University’s College of Education and Human Development. She earned a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from St. John's College, Cambridge University. She was a Staff Fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health and initially joined George Mason University under the auspices of the National Science Foundation's Visiting Professorships for Women Program. Her research concerns the study of interpersonal relationships in educational contexts, young children’s development and early education, and teacher professional development, focusing on critical pedagogy, antiracism, and social justice issues. She co-wrote the book Antiracist Professional Development for In-Service Teachers: Emerging Research and Opportunities (IGI Global 2020), co-edited the book Transforming Teacher Education: Lessons in Professional Development (Bergin and Garvey, 2001) and has published her research in a variety of professional journals, including Child Development, Developmental Psychology, the Journal of Curriculum and Instruction, the Journal of Praxis in Multicultural Education, Democracy and Education, Teaching and Teacher Education, Peace & Change, and Reflective Practice.
