Ericsson Coy-Barrera studied Chemistry at Universidad Nacional de Colombia and obtained his diploma in 2003. He started his Master's in Chemistry in 2004 and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 2006 at the same University. In 2008, he carried out a research stay at the University of Potsdam, performing the synthesis of dihydro benzofurans by a novel Pd-catalyzed oxyarylation reaction as precursors to obtain PAF-antagonistic bicyclo[3.2.1]octane neolignans. After receiving his Ph.D. (2010), he went to Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, Colombia, and has been a Professor in Organic Chemistry since 2010. At this university, he founded the Bioorganic Chemistry Laboratory and started his research line focused on lead findings from nature under holistic and rational approaches based on metabolomics, chemoinformatics, and organic synthesis. In 2011, he was an Invited Researcher at the Institute of Chemistry, University of Sao Paulo.
